Underneath the Orange Sky

A lyrical coming-of-age manuscript about work, class, ambition, love, and becoming — written in real time, under pressure.

About the Book

Underneath the Orange Sky is a hybrid manuscript — part prose, part poetry, part observation — tracing a young Black writer navigating college, labor, money, love, and self-definition. Set primarily in Syracuse, New York, the book moves through dorm rooms, kitchens, streets, parties, and late-night shifts, documenting what it means to become someone while systems press in from all sides. This is not a retrospective. It’s written from inside the moment — while becoming is still unfinished.

What It Explores

Principles that guide how we write, build, and move—structured, intentional, quietly authoritative.

Why This Book Exists

This book was written so I wouldn’t forget who I was becoming. It’s for anyone who has felt caught between who they are and what the world demands of them — and kept moving anyway. If you see yourself anywhere in these pages, take that seriously. Manifesto wouldn’t exist without this book. This version of myself would never exist if I never came Underneath the Orange Sky.
